In this paper, we will present an initial discussion, for the authors, that has emerged in our training spaces as markers of our experiences. A beginning of a debate that consists of the non-neutrality of Mathematics and, consequently, of Mathematics Education from a perspective that involves social issues, specifically racial issues. In this way, we bring to discuss the relationship of these areas as molds to which subaltern bodies are subjected in society. In what ways has Mathematics been used in (...) the most diverse spaces? Can Mathematics offer a welcoming space for black women? And for the queer community? In what ways has Mathematics been used by subaltern bodies? Concerned with these demands, we present here a brief explanation, and a possible environment, for discussions on how subalternized bodies have relied on mathematics to occupy different spaces and thus escape the oppressions and inequalities that surround them. In this article, we want to present an initial demand of ours, as a way of questioning the place of Mathematics and Mathematics Education beyond the discourses and metanarratives that are propagated in these areas, which, because they are so often narrated, become the only version when we talk about Mathematics. So that our demands, full of anguish, can give rise to other problems in the most diverse subjects. (shrink)

Para considerar a la filosofía como una forma de vida y no meramente como una ciencia o una doctrina, la pregunta de cómo puede vivirse o materializarse la verdad en el cuerpo físico es, evidentemente, crucial. Mientras que tanto Foucault (...) como Arendt pueden ser leídos como defensores de la vida filosófica por sus efectos ético-políticos, Arendt sostiene que la vida filosófica socrática es una vida que habilita una distancia con el cuerpo, en contraste, en el análisis de Foucault sobre los cínicos encontramos una idea de la vida filosófica en la que la verdad se revela o manifiesta en el cuerpo material de la vida. Cell communication plays a key role in multicellular organisms. In developing embryos as in adult organisms, cells communicate by coordinating their differentiation through the establishment and/or renewal of a variety of cell communication channels. Under both these conditions, cells interact by either receptor signalling, surface recognition of specific cell adhesion molecules or transfer of cytoplasmic components through junctional coupling. In recent years, it has become apparent that cells may also communicate through the extracellular release of microvesicles. They may originate as (...) either exosomes from the endosomal compartment upon fusion of multivesicular bodies with the plasma membrane or be shed directly from the plasma membrane via extensions of the cell surface. Microvesicles may disperse over long distances through body fluids and deliver their molecular cargo onto a variety of target cells. As a general rule, the metabolic fate of these cells is determined by the molecular nature of the vesicular cargo, while targeting itself depends on the affinity of the molecules expressed on the enclosing membrane. In this paper, we will be arguing that intercellular vesicular transfer is substantially different from other types of cell communication, allowing cells and molecules to interact on varying levels. Cells interacting via ligand signalling owe their specificity to the steric coupling with cognate receptor molecules. As such, it is a pure molecular process that affects target cells only upon integration into their responding repertoire. In this relationship, coupled cells are reciprocally adapted to each other through the selection of their respective signalling capacities, following exploration of their receptor specificity. Interaction by intercellular vesicles realizes a substantially different type of cell communication. Vesicular traffic allows donor cells to carry out a horizontal type of gene transfer and target this information over long distances via independently controlled mechanisms. Because of this independence, cells interacting via vesicular traffic are not expected to adapt their signalling correspondences, but to control instead the efficiency of their cargo delivery irrespective of the receptor repertoire expressed by the target tissue. In this paper, the multifaceted functions of the intercellular vesicular traffic will be discussed in a multilevel biosemiotic perspective with the aim of unravelling the cellular mechanisms devised by nature to accomplish communication. ABSTRACT In section XII of the First Inquiry, Hume refers to the two Hellenistic schools of skepticism to present his own view of skepticism, which, however, depends on the ancient skeptics mainly indirectly. Hume's view of skepticism depends crucially on Descartes and post-Cartesian philosophers such as Pascal, Huet, Foucher and Bayle, who reacted skeptically to major Cartesian doctrines but followed one version or other of Descartes's methodical doubt. Although all these post-Cartesian philosophers are relevant in section XII, I focus on (...) the topics in which Descartes himself-besides his skeptical followers-seems directly relevant. After an introductory section on Julia Annas' and Richard Popkin's views of Hume's relation to, respectively, ancient and modern skepticism, I turn to section XII and examine what Hume calls "consequent skepticism about the senses," "antecedent skepticism," and "Academic skepticism." RESUMO Na seção XII da Primeira Investigação, Hume refere-se a duas escolas céticas antigas ao apresentar sua própria visão do ceticismo que, entretanto, depende do ceticismo antigo somente secundária e indiretamente. A compreensão humiana do ceticismo depende principalmente de Descartes e de filósofos pós-cartesianos como Pascal, Huet, Foucher e Bayle que reagiram ceticamente às principais doutrinas cartesianas, mas seguiram uma versão ou outra da dúvida metódica de Descartes. Embora todos estes filósofos sejam relevantes na seção XII, examinarei os tópicos da seção nos quais Descartes parece ser diretamente visado. During the Reagan Administration, the United States stepped up intervention in the region to overthrow the Sandinista Government. This paper intends to demonstrate that even in the orthodox field of American politics, the role of the United States in the face of the revolution in Nicaragua was not exclusively defined in a single perceptions and that therefore there were competing proposals that even understood the reality in the region from its own dynamics, and not only because of the Cold War. Les Remarques philosophiques sont la première tentative de mettre en oeuvre le programme qui découle de l’échec du projet du Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. Le noyau de ce programme est donné par l’abandon de l’analyse des nombres avancée dans le Tractatus. Wittgenstein se rend compte que les nombres doivent se trouver à la base même du langage, dans la structure des propositions élémentaires. En même temps, il se rend compte qu’il est impossible de fournir la logique sousjacente au langage avant d’avoir procédé (...) à l’analyse. Le projet d’une investigation logique des phénomènes s’imposait, donc, même après l’abandon de l’idée d’un langage phénoménologique. The Philosophical Remarks is a first attempt at pursuing the philosophical agenda determined by the failure of the Tractarian project. The central point of this agenda is the abandonment of the analysis of number that had been given in the Tractatus. Wittgenstein realizes that numbers should be brought back to the basis of language, as part of the structure of the elementary propositions themselves. At the same time, he realizes that it is impossible to give the logic underlying our language before the process of logical analysis is carried out. He undertakes the project of a logical investigation of phenomena even after giving up the idea of a phenomenological language. (shrink)

The issue of the ordering of the ten trichotomies is one among the many questions still open regarding Peirce’s extended theory of signs. A proper decision regarding the order of the ten trichotomies demands a discussion of the entire semiotic process. The aim of this paper is to discuss the order of the trichotomies related to the mode of being of the immediate and dynamical objects. Therefore, it addresses only one part of this process, which concerns the relationship between the (...) sign and its objects. When subdividing the object, Peirce begins to consider the immediate and the dynamic objects as trichotomies, that is, aspects to be considered in the definition of the classes of signs. The introduction of these two trichotomies brings in a problem: how to order them in the system of ten trichotomies. Diverging opinions regarding this ordering are found in Peirce’s texts, and in his commentators. We will investigate this problem by seeking a sort of pragmatic clarification of the matter, presenting a reflection about the philosophical and semiotic consequences of the different proposals for the ordering of these trichotomies. Placing the dynamic object after the sign may even help to explain the functioning of fictional signs, but is this coherent with Peirce’s philosophy? On the other hand, would it be possible to talk about lying signs if every object was determined by its own sign? (shrink)

A partire dal riepilogo per fasi temporali distinte delle vicende dell’architettura italiana del Novecento si propone in queste note un’interpretazione del suo ultimo trentennio. Si tratta di un periodo particolarmente importante, situato tra la fine del “secolo breve” e l’inizio del nuovo, nel quale l’eredità moderna si confronta in Italia, come in altri paesi, con tematiche contemporanee. Tale eredità dà vita a una molteplicità talmente accentuata di orientamenti da risultare a volte difficilmente decifrabile nelle intenzioni che esprime e nei risultati (...) conseguiti. Qualche paragrafo del testo è stato dedicato a illustrare la singolarità teorica e operativa dell’architettura italiana, soprattutto per ciò che concerne il suo rapporto con la modernità. Un rapporto contrattato più volte, sulla base di alcune condizioni ritenute essenziali, che appare ancora oggi incompleto e controverso. Tornando al trentennio in esame lo si è diviso in tre stagioni, identificate sia da logiche interne all’architettura italiana sia da fenomeni e da avvenimenti esterni. Esso vede il dibattito disciplinare confrontarsi con alcune nuove situazioni che lo stanno modificando in profondità. La rivoluzione digitale, la globalizzazione, il primato della tecnica, la presenza degli specialismi, la pressione mediatica, la prevalenza del presente, la sostenibilità definiscono nel loro insieme un campo problematico quanto mai complesso e contradditorio. La cultura architettonica italiana reagisce a questa condizione dividendosi tra il rifletterla e il contrastarla. Nell’analisi di questo periodo si è cercato non tanto di esporre opinioni e giudizi su ciò che è stato sintetizzato, quanto di costruire un elenco di temi e di motivi il più possibile completo che mettesse il lettore in grado di formulare liberamente alcune possibili ipotesi interpretative riguardanti un arco temporale denso di elementi di notevole interesse storico e critico. Las Lecciones sobre teoría del significado (1908) constituyen un valioso documento a la hora de estudiar el pensamiento de Edmund Husserl a propósito del lenguaje. Sin embargo, este texto ha sido escasamente considerado por la crítica. En este trabajo, intentaré mostrar que el estudio de los planteos desarrollados en dichas lecciones resulta de gran interés para el análisis de las continuidades y cambios en el pensamiento de Husserl, así como también para la discusión filosófica sobre el lenguaje. Me concentraré en (...) dos temáticas que considero fundamentales y que servirán, a mi entender, para dar cuenta de su espíritu y relevancia: 1) la distinción entre dos conceptos de significado y sus repercusiones en la distinción entre significado y objeto; 2) la relación entre nuestras dinámicas de trato con las cosas y las formas gramaticales en que dicho trato se expresa lingüísticamente. Receptor oligomerization plays a key role in maintaining genome stability and restricting protein mutagenesis. When properly folded, protein monomers assemble as oligomeric receptors and interact with environmental ligands. In a gene-centered view, the ligand specificity expressed by these receptors is assumed to be causally predetermined by the cell genome. However, this mechanism does not fully explain how differentiated cells have come to express specific receptor repertoires and which combinatorial codes have been explored to activate their associated signaling pathways. It is (...) our contention that the plasma membrane acts as the locus where several contextual cues may be integrated. As such it allows the semiotic selection of those receptor configurations that provide cells with the minimum essential requirements for agency. The occurrence of protein misfolding makes it impossible for receptor monomers to assemble along the membrane and to sustain meaningful relationships with environmental ligands. How could a cell lineage deal with these loss-of-function mutations during evolution and restrain gene redundancy accordingly? In this paper, we will be arguing that the easiest way for bacteria clones to accomplish this goal is by getting rid of cells expressing mutated receptor proteins. The mechanism sustaining this cell selection is also occurring in many somatic tissues and its function is currently believed to counteract in vivo protein mutagenesis. Our discussion will be mainly focused on the significance and semiotic nature of the interplay between membrane receptors and the epigenetic control of gene expression, as mediated by the control of mismatched repairing and protein folding mechanisms. This article aims is to promote debate for scientific thinking about the role of political ecology in the decoloniality of knowledge and power in the Amazon region. The work is divided into two parts: the first part discusses the expansion of modernity to the South and the construction of modern coloniality; in the second, we bring the experience of the babassu coconut breakers, in view of the construction of a “nature-world”, the result of the colonization and globalization processes. The current (...) moment expresses an intensification of conflicts involving different ways of representing and using the nature of these communities. The methodology uses the concepts of political ecology, pluriverse, well-being and decoloniality as bases for the idea of a nature in Amazonian communities that constitutes a conflict with the “nature-world”, which is based on the logic of the resource as the material substrate of a market economy. Die "Werke des Philosophen von Sanssouci / OEuvres du Philosophe de Sans-Souci" sind ein außergewöhnliches historisches Dokument und ein Manifest der praktischen Philosophie der Aufklärung. Sie beinhalten eine aufschlussreiche Auswahl von Gedichten aus der Feder Friedrichs des Großen, die er selbst nach sehr persönlichen Kriterien zusammenstellte und 1752 in einer winzigen Auflage drucken ließ. Diese Gedichtsammlung hatte von Anfang an einen sehr privaten und geheimnisvollen Charakter: Ein Philosoph auf dem Thron schreibt Gedichte! Fern von allen metaphysischen Entwürfen zielen die Verse (...) auf eine konkrete und aufgeklärte Lebensführung ab. In Oden und Episteln und einem Lehrgedicht setzt sich Friedrich mit neuen wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen und philosophischen Systemen auseinander. Als der Gedichtband 1760, mitten im Siebenjährigen Krieg, gegen den Willen des Autors durch Raubdrucke in ganz Europa bekannt wurde, kam es zum Skandal und Papst Clemens XIII. setzte die Gedichte des preußischen Königs sogar auf den Index. Dieser Band vermittelt wichtige Einblicke in den Denkhorizont des "roi-philosophe" von Sanssouci. (shrink)
